Where do five years go? Five. Not a baby. A boy. Five years of firsts, fears, and deep breaths to make it through. This mama has survived more than she thought she could. This boy has surpassed and healed more than he has known. Some days, simply breathing and two hearts beating for two bodies was too much and too soon. Other days, I understand what I've been living for. A perfect boy. A life of his own. Babies don't keep. But a life and a boy and new beginnings every day are something to be treasured. He is Five. He is going to start school in a few weeks. My heart still threatens to explode daily. I guess this is the parent's life.
