$10 DIY

As you well know - Nick and I were at Hobby Lobby yesterday... Well for some reason, I got a stroke of creativity and wanted to get our initials to put on the wall. They had some ugly ones (gold, wrought iron, big/gaudy...) and also they were EXPENSIVE!! The cheapest ones were $10 each. Ummm I don't think so. So we went over to the wooden letters and decided that we could possibly make them ourselves. We got some Black Satin (with slight sparkle) spray paint and some ribbon and Viola! 10 bucks later...

Nick even got to break out a tool! He got to spray paint and use the staple gun! He loved it!

Yes I am well aware that the N is lower than the J. I'll have to work on that. And yes I am seeing from this pic that the spacing isn't exact. But where they are on the wall right now - no one is going to be looking straight on at them, so it works.

Close up of the ribbon. You like?

What do you think? I'm still trying to figure out what to do the top part. Not too sure how to make that look right. I kind of like it as is. Suggestions???

Yes we could have put them up without the ribbon but I thought it would give it extra pizazz.

Not that bad for a non-crafty person huh?

Harry, m'boy

Was Harry Potter everything I expected? Yes.

Will I see it again? Obviously.

Did I compare it to the book the whole time? Thankfully no.

Did I wear my HP DIY shirt? Yes and Veronica made and wore one too. Pic to come soon.

I think this is definitely the best one yet. I laughed (way too much), I (almost) cried, I jumped out of my skin when the hand came out of the water (Nick did too) even though I totally knew it was coming, I left the theater in a daze. All in all - Perfect experience!

I was so pleased with this movie. I won't go into too much detail b/c you wouldn't understand anyway. :( All I can say is that one sweet day when you do decide to see these movies ...you will understand. 'Nuff said.

Susie Homemaker and DIY

1. So I got the urge to do something special with the blueberries I bought instead of just eating them. Sooooo... I went to find a recipe for blueberry bread and found one to make in a bundt pan. I think this is the first thing I've EVER made from scratch! Other than cookies at Christmas which didn't turn out too scrumptious*remembers bitterly*. So here is the finished product:

How does it taste you ask?

Delicious! Oh Yeah! It may not be Peach Cobbler... but it's still good!

2. Do It Yourself T-Shirts

In my scouring of the internet to find suitable t-shirts for HP (harry potter for those not in the loop) and Twilight - I found NOTHING. Then when I managed to find a shirt that I might wear in public - I got bogged down on what size to get. I really hate having to return anything especially something that would have to be shipped back. So I finally decided maybe I could just make some. Well. Let. Me. Tell. You. It is not that easy (or perhaps maybe I'm just not that crafty - which is okay). First of all you sit there and doubt yourself for like 2 hours. Then you hesitate over and over again when it comes to putting anything on the actual shirt. So I delegated to Nick and he did a WONDERFUL job creating a Team Edward logo on the computer and then a line underneath to make it look like it belonged on a baseball shirt. So off we went to the store to get iron on transfers. Well the first one did NOT come out. So off I went to buy another shirt and some letter sponges to use instead. I guess he thought one more go was worth the chance so he printed another copy of the logo (in pink this time yay!) and tried it again. Well it still didn't come out perfect but I think it might work.

Check it:

Nick says it looks 'vintage'. I don't think it looks too bad. What do you think?

The other one is one I saw online that was also homemade. It is a little off center but I have to wait until it dries to see how it looks on. I am hoping that when it is on it won't be as noticeable. We'll see.

So whaduya think? At least now I have an idea how to work the sponges and fabric paint so if I do decide to redo this one it might come out a little better. :)

Words of Wisdom

We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some are broken, some are whole, some have weird names, and all are different colors.... but they all learn to live in the same box.
