A Sister

I never wanted a sister.

Jason was always enough.

I never even thought about what another sibling would be like. He was always more than enough for me to keep up with. (Not to mention he has enough personality for 6 brothers.) I was always happy.  Always content to trail behind.  Follow in his footsteps.  Be his shadow.

Be his confidant.  His alibi...  His scapegoat.  His sounding board. His friend.

I never wanted a sister...  Until he met Sterling.

Now I see that while I haven't been 'missing out' on having a sister, I'm definitely looking forward to the rest of my life with one.  Especially one as good and kind and special as she is.

Congratulations Jason and Sterling!

I love you both!

Happy Birthday Dad!!

Hope you didn't mind being screamed at by my 15 darling children first thing this morning.  But we just had to call you.  Even though they were super bummed to find out that you weren't coming to celebrate with them (and bring cupcakes and ice cream of course)....  Even if you shocked the life out of them with 'how OLD" you are today...

They loved getting to 'talk' to you (i.e. - scream at you).  They were still talking about it this afternoon.

I WISH I could be there to taste Sterling's yummy cake...

LOL - I LOVE YOU STERLING!!! (pls don't stop sending me pictures!!)  *hides*

I know it tastes delicious!!!  Even if it wasn't quite as pretty as it started out - by the time it got there.  (It was totally the heat...)

Speaking of - WHO let Jason have any part in bringing the cake?!!  Haven't we learned?!  (love you J... but srsly...no more cake deliveries!)

Happy Birthday to the Best Dad in the world!  I love you!  I'm so lucky you're mine.

Hopefully this one was even better than the last (and not quite as good as the next).

Kid Funnies

I'm going to start by saying that I am super bummed.  After a talk with Mel over the weekend I realized  I was carrying around a letter W wrote to me professing me as his best friend.  When honestly (im srs!) it just fell out of my school work basket the other week.  I really wasn't trying to keep it.  I definitely didn't leave it in my back seat for the world to see ...on purpose.  And I most definitely hadn't planned on posting it here (as Mel assumed). I hadn't even read it.  But after reading...I knew I had to post it.  I mean that poor letter has been through it!  Trampled all over by the dog...crushed under the gazillion cupcake carriers last week... stepped on by soaking wet feet this weekend.  I mean if it wasn't blog worthy before...it def is now!  But I can't.  B/c N is CONSTANTLY messing with the computers around here...and has the computer that is connected to the scanner in pieces right now...waiting on some parts to come in... So...  No picture.  And I'm bummed.  B/c nothing is better than finding an unexpected (and written with no ulterior motives) note that a sweet, sweet boy wrote and named you as his best friend in.  Nothing.

Recess

Last week after drawing with the sidewalk chalk:
K: Mrs. K*** Mrs. K*** LOOK LOOK at what I drew for you!
Me:  OH!  A worm.  I love it!!
K: *giggles* NO!
Me:  Um....a snake?
K:  NO...
Me:   ummmmmm.... a.... dolphin?
K:  NO silly!  It's YOU!!
Me:  OH...*looks skeptical*  I totally see it now!!
K:  You like it?
Me: ...

T *running up to me*:  Mrs. K***...remember when you said that we can't touch other people?
Me:  *mumbles* oh my jesus...

After pulling up a chair to work one on one

J:  Oh...hi Mrs. K**.
Me:  Oh... hi J**.
J:  Oh...so are you helping S?
Me:  Yep.  What are you doing?
J:  Just waiting for him to finish so he can be my Memory partner.  But that's good that you're helping him *pats me on the back* that's a good idea.
Me:  oh ok. rly?  ...

While taking the measurement test
(using a balance scale)

W (my best friend) was working and concentrating SO hard to get the scale to balance perfectly.  It took him at least 15 minutes to get through that page.

W (every time he got the scale to balance):  Mejure!!

No, not "balanced" or "equal"... "mejure!"  (measure)  and if you know W... You know that that exclamation point means srs bsns...he pretty much yelled it out every time.  Then he would concentrate so hard on counting how many (counting bears) it took to weigh the same thing as the other side...he'd go a little cross-eyed.  I almost couldn't take the cuteness!  (and you were wondering why I would let him take 15 minutes on one page...that's why! I couldn't get over how freaking cute the whole thing was.)

Not a Kid funny...
but still 100% funny to me...

Finding notes I write to myself to remind me of something or to do something...and they're so cryptic I can't begin to figure out what I was saying...

Not a bad way to spend a Monday...

being covered in paint.  Finishing our "Dinosaur Eggs".

Even though they totally just look like balloons...(or babloons...as my kids like to call them).  And WHO KNEW that dinosaurs laid such colorful eggs!

And it's with a very heavy heart that I repost this Sunday Truth...

b/c it's true.  And very relevant.

Say what you need to say.  Do what you need to do.  And never take one moment or one person or one thing for granted. Ever.

Question:  Something I am not...

I mean WHO thought it would be a good idea for me to try to make a thousand cupcakes for the bake sale this week?  I don't know what I was thinking.

I had good intentions.

It was for a good cause.

There was only one injury.  And it really wasn't even cooking related.  That's how big of a retard I am.

But I learned.  Making 92 cupcakes at once...not for me.

Gigantic bowl...check!
Only previously used to bring pasta or potato salad to cookouts or family gatherings.

Not even half of them...

I was so over the whole thing by this point...there are NO pictures of the finished product.  none.  But I have seen kids eating my cupcakes this week.  And they were edible!

So...Success!!  Even though I still want my Sunday afternoon back!

Sunday truths

From Ruminations.com

When I'm texting someone, I feel like it's proper etiquette for me to match that persons patterns of capitalization and punctuation.

Sometimes it's more fun to root against a team than for a team.

It's interesting to note the time in a relationship when sharing the bed goes from "Should we spoon?" to "If you encroach one more inch onto my side I'm going to donkey kick your ass to the floor."

When we're having a conversation and I back up, that does not mean you come forward, close talker.

April Fool's Day

The hardest part of April Fool's Day in a classroom...is acting like everything said and every joke is the best and most original and most believable thing I've ever heard.  Having to 'fall for it' every time is exhausting...and hard work.

I think I deserve an Oscar.

Words of Wisdom

We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some are broken, some are whole, some have weird names, and all are different colors.... but they all learn to live in the same box.
