Blah...Blah...Blah...

Life is boring this week.

I am desperately trying to finish reading Lovely Bones so I can finally watch the movie. It's no Twilight. All I'm sayin. I mean it's good. Just not grab you by your heart and suck you in -good.

I discovered this morning that while I make every effort to obey the speed limits in the school zones (even though I will inevitably run someone down one day since I am paying soooo much attention to my speedometer not going above 25mph - which is soul-murderingly slow btw) and speed traps on my way to work each morning - I always end up flying through my own school zone careening into the parking lot on two wheels and skidding to a stop in my parking space (most likely to make up for lost time). I wonder why that is. I came to this realization this morning only after I followed a higher up into the parking lot. I found myself thinking 'who is this maniac flying through the school zone?!? who does she think she is?!?! ... oh." So I guess I don't feel too bad about speeding through my school zone anymore (not that I ever really did, now I feel justified).

In light of the millions of charts I have to use each day (sigh - my heart hurts for all the trees we've killed) to write down so the kids can 'refer back to it when they need it', I taught my kids the fine art of abbreviation. My six year olds now can (and do) write "b/c, cyl (cylinder), rec prism (rectangular prism), ww (wall word), wf (word family), idk (i don't know), #w (number word), and many others. I'm probably messing them up - but nothing is funnier then when you find an unexpected abbreviation in a test or in the middle of a story they wrote. I like to think that I am preparing them for the 21st century -you know - a future with lots of texting.

Oh yeah, how's this for exciting? We had a wonderfully informative meeting [insert SARCASM font] about using the calendar software that comes with our email. How excited was I to spend 2 hours in a meeting learning the fine features that are available and waiting for me to utilize? Very. *rolls eyes* So what did I do this morning when I had nothing better to do with my time[SARCASM font again]? Oh yeah - I filled in my calendar for the next four months. And color coded it. Jealous? You are.

I woke up in the middle of the night last night to find Thomas sitting on my chest like a statue - staring at me. C-R-E-E-E-E-E-E-P-Y-to the max. I can't decide if he was gazing lovingly at me thinking about how awesome I am and how much he adores me - or if he was simply plotting where to scratch/bite me next or if he was trying to work out whether or not he could pee in my hair without me noticing. This IS Thomas we're talking about.

So that's been my boring life for the last few days. Now you know. I know you were wondering.

Oh best part? I woke up this morning to discover that Murphy threw up in the hallway. How did I discover it? By stepping in it with my bare foot of course. Best. Way. Ever. to start the day. Trust.

January Lull

Ahh...January...what to do with you? You are the best month for a teacher - since this is the only month of the year when my kids actually are fully invested in learning and not hyped up by some kind of holiday or other random celebration. But you are also the longest, boringest month. I have no true vacation in sight until the end of March. I know *ducks* stop throwing stuff at me - most jobs don't have set 'vacations' like mine. But still...

January... how I love thee... but how I also hate thee...

All the Christmas hype is over and I am stuck looking forward to a lack of possible winter weather (gotta love the south and the once a year snow flurries and/or 1/2 inch of snow/sleet) and Valentines Day (can you tell I'm not your typical commercial girlie girl?).

I do however love the cold. I love wearing long sleeved shirts, sweaters, and knee high socks. How weird?!? I know.

I don't however love getting into a COLD car in the morning/scraping ice off the windows/or taking the dog out first thing in said FREEZING COLD mornings (since January and February are the COLDEST freaking months here).

Lately it has been entirely too cold here. I mean come on - 16 degrees is simply too much when there is no promise of snow or school closings. Come on now - this is South Carolina. Not Antarctica. I mean - I've taken to wearing a sweater and two coats just to drive the 5 minutes to work each day. Do you know how hard it is to move when you are wearing a thick sweater, a fleece jacket, a pea coat, a scarf and gloves?!? Very.

Any way - today is Thursday, so that is good. Tomorrow is Friday, so that is better. Monday is a holiday, so that makes it manageable. I know my weekend activities will include a blanket and some warm jammies.

Try not to freeze to death. That would be tragic.

A Toast...

to 2010...may you be better than 2009.

to Peace...cause heaven knows we need more.

to Love...because you can never have enough.

to Hope...because sometimes it's all we have.

to a family that loves and supports everything I do...I love you guys.

to family game nights...even if we are throwing each other under the bus the whole time.

to Siblings who "bring out the crazy" in each other.

to Girl's Nights that never happened...because we will never speak of what happens during them.

to Movie quotes that are run INTO THE GROUND with our constant quoting.

to Eating bologna roll ups and cookie dough...just because you can (and because it seemed like a good idea at the time).

to learning to love the life you have.

to learning to accept what you have and where you are in life.

to a husband who cooks...because I can't, cleans the bathroom...because I think it's gross to clean the tub and toilet, and moves furniture around on a whim without complaint...because sometimes I just feel like a change.

to remembering to stop more often to appreciate the beauty in this world.

to intentionally and unintentionally making up new words (yutz, ish and H -E -'dovel- hockO sticks')...because "it'll catch on".

to "nights we won't remember with friends we'll never forget".

to being "the [insert number] best friends that anybody could have".

to secret obsessions and best friends to share them with.

to having friends with which no TMI exists.

to 500-600 thread count sheets...because Heaven is in the small things.

to laughing so hard you can't breathe.

to a loving family, loving friends, good health, comfortable shoes, a warm bed, clean clothes, good food to eat, a place to call home (and maybe high speed Internet)...because really... that's all we need.

to 2010 - may you be the best year yet!

Happy New Year!

Alive

...and man it feels good! I still can't yawn or sneeze...but other than that - I have recovered.

The best part of being deathly ill and out of school for a few days? Seeing the kids' faces light up and get all excited when they saw me this morning. All the hugs and 'I missed yous' and 'where were yous?!?' are really sweet. I even had one kid tell me he prayed for me to get better so I would come back. Awwww!!! Srsly? The sweetest thing anyone has ever said to me.

So in my temporary lapse in living - I did something unheard of. I saw New Moon 3 times. Yes. I am one of those people. In my defense - I went with different people every time.

What I liked:

The humans! Holy Crow (Yeah V - I said it). They were freaking hilarious. I don't know what happened to Mike. I mean he looks 20 pounds heavier and 10 years older than last movie (he's suppose to be boy next door cute)- but he was so funny at the movies. Jessica def wins for best comic relief. I mean she owned it. Def every bit the Jessica from the books.

Music. I was skeptical upon first hearing the soundtrack but they did a great job putting the right type of music in each scene.

Bella. Actually acted in this one. Didn't stutter, gasp, and blink the whole time. Her depression was absolutely heartbreaking.

Jake. Being my fav book in the series - I almost cross over to Team Jacob here. You really can see how life with him could be really nice and happy. He's just so lovable. But life isn't quite fair so as soon as Edward reemerges...it's all over for the 'almost team jacob' movement.

Edward. Need. I. say. more? He is a sexy beast even in the grandpa clothes.

Charlie. OMG he is sooooo freaking cute in this one! I love the way they're having him play the role.

Jasper's southern accent. *melts*

The Remember Me preview. Sweet Jesus! I was NOT expecting that Thursday night! And it was the first preview. I needed minutes to recover afterward. Srsly. Ask Veronica. I was freaking speechless.

The flow of the movie. It wasn't choppy. I didn't feel like I missed things. The acting was waaaaaay better. The chemistry was really good.

Things I didn't really like:

As stated- I am willing to overlook a lot in this movie b/c it was really good and easy to watch and like. However I did not like the whole "Alice vision" tragedy. I mean really - They look uber gay frolicking through the woods like that. I think Edward is totally cute in his outfit but srsly?!? WTF? When/Why would they EVER do that? I did like that you see the sun hit her at one point but by then I am so beside myself in embarrassment that I can't fully enjoy the moment.

The drowning scene. Really?!? It starts out with all this promise. But then -Why does it look like a FSE cardboard cutout floating upside down in the water with a dying Bella? I don't get it. It is awkward and weird.

The wigs. Ok come on now. How much money did Twilight make? Can they not do better than a $5.99 Halloween wig from Target? Srsly? Jasper needs to go back to dying it blonde and feathering it back like he did in Twilight. That wig ain't cutting it. And Rosalie looks like a cheap Barbie doll knock-off. Or some random girl who dressed up as Roaslie for Halloween (with a cheap wig).

The lack of continuity. They look soooo different from Twilight. And they are not suppose to change. Edward looks like he's aged. Rose looks cheap. Jasper looks like he belongs in the 70s. Alice looks pregnant. I mean I know they needed to make some changes/upgrades - but still I'm going to have a hard time watching them back to back in the future. *Like I said though - I am willing to overlook a lot of negatives based on the quality of the movie. This is one of those things.

My life is random.

Random but quite often LOL funny from stupid stuff that I encounter, say, hear & read. Since Veronica and I chat on gmail to pass the time - I can bring up the transcript later and see how goofy/retarded/funny/drunk...(the list goes on) we are. I like gmail chat b/c often we just type what pops into our minds and don't stop to think about what we are saying until it is too late. This multiplies exponentially when we have been drinking during/before the chat. So gmail chat is awesome in my book. Otherwise - sometimes I get it together and write something down that people say during convos. So you better watch out... b/c I am totally going to be paying attention and taking notes from now on...

Since they're so random I thought I'd share.

Gmail outtakes:

(talking about one outrageously long faculty meeting where we looked at grading student writing- one paper talked on and on about how you shouldn't smoke b/c it might cause you to get in a car accident...yeah...you read that right)

Me: during that don't smoke paragraph Carla was going on and on about how you could possibly end up getting in an accident when smoking... She had us rolling.

she kept coming out with ... you might drop the cig.. .under the seat... then you'd be swerving trying to get it... or in the seat... or if you drop the lighter
or if you drop it on your clothes and catch on fire...

V - wow

Me - Srsly I'm sitting with Carla at meetings from now on...

*****************

7:09 me: just got home...on a Friday... what is wrong with me? I could have been home at 2:30 today.

me: i want you to know i risked my life and sanity putting those hw papers in ur room
7:13 Veronica: why?
me: ALL the lights were off in the hallway and it was CREEPY I've never seen it that dark

me: totes thought something was gonna jump out of the blackness and get me

Veronica: wow, well thanks

7:14 PM i mean i couldn't even see the floor
totes could have broken my neck tripping over a trash can
or something worse
like a person hiding on the floor in the dark

(yes this is srsly the kind of stuff that goes through my mind when walking through the dark)

***************

Trying to get Veronica to guess something - I told her that I like trying to get people to guess what I'm thinking...

me: much like i get a thrill out of holding secret competitions that no one knows about until i inform them that they won (or that I won)

**************

A true testament of just HOW random our chats are...

me: yeah how about im bummed about getting an 80 on The Host test
:(
I feel like a failure
8:08 PM Veronica: i know -but you only read it once, a LONG time ago
i didn't attempt the HP quizzes - i know i would FAIL

me: yeah - it was a while ago
you might want to refresh on those before testing

unless u want to 'call a friend' - cause then you'd be good
b/c you know I have no morals and would be happy to sit with you while you take the test and refresh your memory

**(we're talking about taking quizzes for points that don't matter...nothing serious or real)

Veronica: yeah, i would prob need that - i just sent you two funny emails

8:11 PM me: yay emails
8:14 PM haha - i like it but srsly how did that dude get up on the three buckets?

8:15 PM Veronica: i don't know photoshop?

me: awww man srsly? that just ruins it :(

Veronica: oh yeah, congrats on your big win

me: for what?

Veronica: you won membership for a month... LOL.. to curves...LOL
me: oh ...
yeah...

that...

Veronica: you shouldn't have been knocking it yesterday

me: I know right? Curves?! Y not McLeod or YMCA? i didn't have the heart to say "ummmm... i. will. NEVER. use. this… ever.
LOL
WHAT ever
karma
bit me
Veronica: yep, it always does

me: dang i was excited... thought i won for something i was unaware of

************

me: how about thomas BIT me
hard
i have wounds

Veronica: did he get a spanking

me: YES and he got locked in the hamper for like an hour

Veronica: oh crap
you are harsh

me: AFTER THE DAY I HAD????

that was mild. trust.

************

talking about how Jacob in Twilight doesn't look like he is 17 years old (I'm paraphrasing here b/c I can't find this chat)

Veronica: I mean 17 yr olds just don't look like that.

Me: Yeah I don't remember anyone looking like that in high school - that's bad b/c it is very easy to forget how young he is. Even my mom said something about it.

Veronica: Maybe I'll start going to Sonic to see since that's where all the high school kids hang out.

Me: I'll start saving bail money.

Veronica: NOT to pick one up!!

***********

Me: wow i might as well be drunk with the level of difficulty i am having typing. stupid. long. fingernails.
hold on I'm going to be a beer
srsly...

Veronica: it's okay, i can decipher

me: not be a beer - get a beer..

11:26 PM Veronica: you must be already drunk

me: sadly not - this is me sober.

*********

Recent Jason Funnies: (I wrote them down today...)

J - I might be a referee for Halloween too - good idea... I'd be flagging all the girls

me - *sarcastic* wow

J - I'd be blowing my whistle at everyone...

me - no, that wouldn't get your butt kicked.

J- I'd be THAT guy

me- yes, yes you would.

*********

J - there's nothing wrong with having a little self-esteem.

me - LITTLE being the key word, not a whole bucket full

J- more like a 50 gallon drum full

me - *sarcastic* wow

***********

One last thing: When talking with a "new to Twilight" friend (sorry Kathryn - this is way too good not to share) on FB I asked her what she knew about the new movie since she hasn't read the books - and she totally wins for Best. Summary. Ever.

My understanding is the indian boy wants to get w/ bella...the black vampire that warned bella in twlight attacks bella and the indian boy turns into a wolf. edward tries to stay away from bella bc that new vegetarian vampire tries to eat bella and so bella tries to drown herself bc she thinks she can only see edward when shes in trouble. so after she tries to drown herself edward thinks she is dead so he tries to get the Head vampire to kill him... right when he tries to get the vamp to kill him bella comes in to stop him! lol it should be good. this is what the previews kinda said..

Update/FYI

I added music to the blog. Why? B/c I wanted to ... duh... So if you don't want to hear it you can mute your computer or if it's bogging down your computer -you can scroll to the bottom and pause it.

Some days... I feel like this...

and this...

Warning: This post is pure randomness.

Is it too soon to start the Christmas Break countdown? It might be better if there wasn't so much sicknesses going around.

Thomas BIT me. Yes I know it looks like he scratched me...but srsly - he bit me. Guess he didn't like my hateful school parent story. Now it is all bruised and gross looking.

Does this look bad? I don't know what bit me here. I thought it was a mosquito bite but they don't hurt and spread like that. Hmmmm... prob gonna die from this.

As much as it pains me to say this.... Mooooooooooovvvvvvveeeee over Twilight. I have a new obsession. I know right? Say it ain't so...

You must read The Hunger Games and Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. Wow. All I'm sayin'. You'll laugh, you'll cry and you'll fall in love. Srsly. Waaaaaayyyy more action than the entire Twilight series. Now I have to wait a freaking YEAR for the final book in the series to come out... Oh well. I survived years of waiting for the HP books. I suppose I can survive one year for this. Even though the bites on my arm might kill me before then... :(

Lastly - just for the LOLz.

Things I HATE that most people LOVE

Since I’m not feeling very creative lately – possibly due to trying to keep up with 23 -6 year olds who are incredibly needy… Kids… gah!!* - I am going to borrow an idea from fellow blogger Busy Bee Lauren -

Things I hate that most people love

*You know I love my kids…. And my job… *cough* mostdays *cough*

1. Chain letters- Don’t get me wrong, I actually love reading them but I hate the end where it always has to say something about “if you don’t send this to ___ people by the end of the day you will suffer ________ misfortune”. Call me superstitious but I totally believe that all the bad craziness will occur and I will be struck dead or with serious misfortune if I don’t comply. And really – who has room in their life for that kind of bad karma?

2. Roller coasters – I recently learned that I don’t actually like being on roller coasters *gasp*. I don’t enjoy them at all. I cringe the WHOLE time and secretly just want it E-N-D. And since I am sooooooo drugged up on Dramamine the whole time, I’m in a drug haze that makes me not really enjoy anything … except perhaps to take a good long nap.

3. Swimming in the ocean – Mind you, I do LOVE the beach and being able to put my toes in the water but after thinking about all the things that are in the ocean (dead AND alive *shudder*), I have decided that I don’t actually want any of that water getting in my mouth. Gross.

4. Pedicures (and manicures for that matter) – Like I really want some stranger messing with my feet and toes. I think not. They always cut my toe nails down too much and I always find myself fearing for my poor little piggies. Manicures and acrylic nails are also a sham. It always hurts sooooo much afterward b/c the acrylic nails are too tight and put too much pressure on my fingers. Not to mention the awkwardness of having to sit there with someone who doesn’t speak the same language as me talking to the other people working there. And since I’m so paranoid anyway – I always psych myself into believing they are talking about me.

5. Birds – I know everyone thinks they are majestic and free and such. I think they are creepy as all heck. I mean srsly. Look at one up close. ‘Nuff said.

6. Desperate Housewives - I. Just. Don’t. Get. It. Sorry…

So what do you HATE that everyone else seems to love???

Oh Target...How I Love Thee...

I'm just gonna say it... Target rocks my world.

Srsly.

There is no other store I love going to like I love going to Target. I can't explain it but wondrous things happen at Target. [This is a proven fact.]

I mean really - Nick and I will srsly go to Target and simply walk around for much longer than socially acceptable.

Today's excursion was no exception.

I'll explain...

First - I enter the store to find a grown man (who oddly reminded me a lot of you dad) standing at the magazines. Not too interesting... until I notice that he's fully engrossed in a gossip magazine with Twilight stars plastered all over the cover. I can't even begin to explain how freaking AWESOME this is to me. Maybe it was the fact that he looked a lot like Dad (and I could totally picture dad being all into the gossip mag) - or maybe it was that he was so completely into what he was reading... I may never know. I do know that this sight alone was enough to totally make my day/week. I totally would have taken a picture of this - but I didn't want to startle him. {He was really into it.}

Then I found these:

Now I have been looking for a pair of ballet flats for some time now and I could never figure out why I couldn't find any that looked right. I never could pinpoint the problem... until today.

My freakishly L-O-N-G toes show! I mean srsly - who has toes that long?!? However, I was able to get over my oddity since when I walk my toes kind of scrunch up and don't look as long.

Cute huh? Oh yeah - also - they S-P-A-R-K-L-E. (hehe cause everyone loves things that ...ahem... *cough-Sparkle-cough*...even more-so in the sunlight...)

{Yes my toes are totally 'scrunched up' in there to appear normal.}*

*Not scrunched up in an "ow that hurts" kind of way - don't worry mom.

You know you want a pair.

Next - I found this totally cute collar for Thomas:

On S.A.L.E. for 2 bucks ~ Heck Yeah!

Not that you can tell but it is light blue with little reflective paw prints. The tag said it was for "Active cats" psh... Thomas... Active... riiiigggghhhhtttt... Either way - it's cute.

Sorry for the pic quality. Thomas wouldn't cooperate. Mini E even tried to distract him - FAIL. Thomas tried to EAT him... :( Don't worry your pretty little head though - he survived. Mini E is hardcore.

And Finally - What made it the best trip ever to Target... When we were checking out - the dude in front of us (and by dude I mean late 20 something looking around anxiously) was buying one thing... Breaking Dawn (4th Twilight book). I could have died. Something between the combination of it being the ONLY thing he bought, him being alone and him looking the way he did (all lost, confused and slightly embarrassed) - I almost wanted to hug him! And I think Nick would have let me (heck - I think Nick might have hugged him himself). He was almost as astonished as I was! Again, I could have taken a pic but I didn't want to discourage him from these types of acts.

So all in all - I <3 Target.

The End.

Jen Procrastinates

Big shock there I know. The good news is that I am not procrastinating on anything really important. I'm sitting in a clean apartment, I have clean clothes, I've done my lesson plans & newsletter for the week AND I already know what I am wearing tomorrow! So the only thing I have left to do today is paint my finger nails. AND I DON'T WANT TO! *throws mini tantrum* But I know for a fact that if I don't paint them - I will have them completely bitten off and hurting by 3:00 tomorrow. :(

Such a dilemma I know. Woe is me. *sighs*

So instead of doing that - I am going to review some movies I recently watched and tell you how the first two weeks of school went.

1. School Recap

To say "I survived" - is a serious, serious understatement. I always forget how much first graders grow during the year. We get to the point in the year when they are doing so much on their own, can listen to directions AND follow them. Starting over in August has to be one of the hardest parts of teaching. (notice I said 'one of the' not 'the hardest part') I have been repeating myself so much and telling my kids what to do and how to do it with SO much detail and repetition that I actually told Nick one night that he would need to be sure to "rinse the plates off and throw the trash in the trash can before he could put them in the dishwasher". I'm. Not. Kidding. You should have seen the look on his face! That was totally one of those 'priceless' moments. For both of us - b/c I didn't even realize for a few seconds why he was looking at me like I had lost my mind.

So my last two weekends have been full of quiet and relaxing activities. And needless to say - I am so totally looking forward to the long weekend coming up! This is not to say that I haven't enjoyed my new class. They are some of the sweetest, loving kids I've ever had! They are so lovable that you just can't get too upset with them... yet... And some of them are so little - I can't NOT forget that they really are 'babies' just starting out in the world away from their parents. So we're getting to know each other and learning the ropes for the classroom and I am about to be putting the foot down so hopefully by the end of the week - they will know what's up. Srsly - I had some slight rebellion due to actually having to sit and do some work this week - but we're getting there. So I am optimistic for the year! I also have pretty good parents *knocks on wood*! They all seem really helpful and accommodating! So that's awesome! I already have a snack stockpile from parents who just send stuff in 'for a rainy day' and they are all being really good about the whole food allergy situation. So all in all - a good start! Hopefully they will start getting a little better with the whole listening and paying attention situation really soon! And also - HOPEFULLY they (one child in particular) will get to the point where they (he) are (is) able to enter the room without sheding tears and throwing serious tantrums for Mom and/or Dad leaving.

2. Movie Reviews

Remember how I mentioned that I have been enjoying some quiet, relaxing activities during the weekends lately? Well yeah - mostly that means - that I have been watching movies, reading and resting my mind (and voice) from my own life.

So in no particular order I'm gonna share my thoughts on a few movies.

The Hangover

Hands down - the BEST movie I have seen in a while! I figured it would be kind of stupid and retarded. Well I guess it really was a little of both - but I haven't laughed that hard at a movie in a long time. I figured the language would be strong - but it wasn't so bad that you couldn't get past it. And can I say... Bradley Cooper as 'Phil'... wow *speechless*. He MADE that movie!

Best Lines: Phil (voicemail message) - Hey, this is Phil. Leave me a message, or don't, but do me a favor: don't text me, it's gay.

Stu - We're in a stolen cop car with what is sure to be a missing child in the back. What part of this is cool? Alan - I think the cop car part's pretty cool.

And also - the BEST part of that movie?? - the end credits. Srsly.

Knocked Up

Yeah - I'll admit - I stayed away from this one b/c I heard it was terrible. But I was intrigued so I caved. I actually thought it was pretty funny! Cliche but still had a few good laughs! Plus the ending was sweet so that's always good.

Best Lines - Little Girl: I googled 'murder'. Alison: What?!? Why!?! .... What'd it say?

17 Again

Yeah I watched it. What? Don't judge me. I originally stayed away from this one b/c I thought it would be lame. The end. So when I caved and watched it yesterday I about turned it off about 15 minutes in b/c it was lame. It had the wanna be magical feel to it and to be honest - it wasn't working. But after the 15 minute mark - it got soooo goooood!

I've never been a big fan of Zac Efron (I did force myself to sit through High School Musical 1 and 2 after all) - Other than being mesmerized by him since Nick and I discovered his resemblance to Chad two years ago when Wal-Mart whored HSM out and had pictures of them EVERYWHERE in the store. (I mean really - can you see it? Zac E. and Chad definitely have some similar facial features). Ha Ha... Sorry Lauren - I guess I never told you guys that!

Anyway- so yeah - I've never thought too much about him b/c let's face it HSM does NOT showcase good acting abilities. Sorry. It's true. But after seeing him in 17 Again - I. Am. A. Fan. He is soooo cute and *shock* he actually CAN act. I loved him in the movie! And really - the movie itself had a decent storyline!

Best Line: Mike: (pretending to read a letter to his soon-to-be ex wife): ...and then you whispered that you loved me at the homecoming dance, and I felt so peaceful... and safe... because I knew that no matter what happened, from that day on, nothing could ever be that bad... because I had you.

Lamest Line: Some Random Girl: if he were an apple he would be a delicious. Jens note: W.T.F?!?! Srsly?

Okay - as Veronica would say - Confession Time...

The ONLY reason I watched the next two movies was b/c of who was in them. There I said it.

Little Ashes

Alright - I may have lied a little a second ago. There is a slight chance I would have watched this one even if Robert Pattinson wasn't in it. It seemed interesting and I like weirdos (Dali). And honestly after the first few times you see him you actually begin to forget it's him b/c he really loses himself in the role. Which is awesome b/c that means he is a great actor. B/c let's be honest here - some (and I really mean some - not all) of his acting in Twilight was cringe-worthy. I choose to blame the direction but still - it was good to see him showing off serious acting skills. Disclaimer -Little Ashes is NOT for everyone. But since I can get past the man-on-man 'action' and see it as a tragic love 'story' - I thought it was completely heartbreaking and extremely well done. It was awkward, tragic, quirky and at the same time beautiful. I'm glad they stopped it when they did b/c the ending totally broke my heart.

Best Quote - Well actually the last scene made more of an impression on me than anything else.

Adventureland

(sorry no pic - not gonna advertise when I don't have positive things to say...)

Ummm yeah - even though I L-O-V-E Kristen Wiig (from SNL) - even she couldn't make me enjoy this movie. It just kind of dragged on and really didn't make a whole lot of sense. I mean the end was decent but still I was left wondering "What was the point?". Kristen Stewart was okay but not really memorable and the story line was pretty lame. An ok movie if you have 2 extra hours in your life that you don't really want.

Best Quote - ... yeah ummm I really don't care to even try to remember one.

On a better note - Kristen Stewart was really good in Speak. (It comes on Lifetime like all the time) and I'm not embarrassed to say I really liked her in Zathura. I would recommend both of those! And also - who can forget that she was the diabetic daughter in Panic Room who had what must have been a seriously advanced model of the 'blood sugar monitor watch'. B/c those 'watches' never really came out and/or never really took off. Cause - I would totally be on board with one of those.

Ummm... yeah - this ^ is how Bella should look in New moon. Am I right?

KStew in Zathura - I don't care what people say - she is a pretty girl!

Oh - alright - I guess I have to stop procrastinating and go paint my nails...

What are some movies you've seen recently (or not so recently)?

Thursday Funny

Yeah - this may very NOT funny to YOU - but I for one thought it was pretty up there on the list.

Excerpt from a recent convo between me and Nick:

Me: Man! Texting the word 'back' sucks! The "b" "a" and "c" are all on the same number! Totally messes the flow of texting!

Nick: Yeah - 'lemons' too.

Me: *silence*... WHAT?!?

Nick: Texting {the word} 'lemons' is like that too. The "m" "o" and "n" are all on one number.

Me: *silence* *ponders that for a few seconds* Dude - WTF are you texting that you would need to actually say 'lemons'?!?

Am I right??!?!?

Side note:
*I mean it's not like we text grocery lists or anything.

**I'm way too slow for all that.

Sunday, August 9

It's been a while ... for that I'm sorry...

I've been busy. I found something new to read (no I will not burden you with the details - I'm way too embarrassed anyway.) But don't worry I already finished it. I've been trying to get back into work mode. It's been difficult. (to say the least)

1. I am terribly sad to see summer end. *pouts* I am just not yet ready to start another school year. I am hoping that by the middle/end of this week I will be ready. I have hope. I am thinking this was a bad time to start a reread of the Twilight books. Oh well. I can multi-task. :) But I am also thinking that seeing everyone back and working at school will jump start my enthusiasm. We'll see.

2. I turn 25 this week. So I have one more year before I consider myself not young. (notice I did not say old) JFTR* Not young does not mean old. Why do I consider 26 to be not young? I dunno, so don't ask. But anyway guess what I'm getting...

What the... a freaking doll/'action figure'? For a 25 yr old? Yes! You are correct. My very own Pocket Edward. I know - you don't understand. From what I hear - Mini E is quite a companion. Wait 'til you meet him. Maybe you'll understand - maybe you won't. Either way - I'm stoked!

*JFTR = just for the record (for those of you who don't speak "Internet")

3. A scandal.**

Last night Nick went out to the store by himself. When he returned he had a surprise for me:

{Yes - that is the actual poster up on my actual bedroom wall. } *covers face to hide embarrassment*

I. am. scandalized. I feel like a 14 yr old girl with this up on my wall. Especially so b/c this is NOT Edward - this is the actor who plays Edward. Nick said that the Edward posters were all sorts of creepy and he thought I'd like this picture better. Which I do. Awwww... isn't that sweet? Even though it scares the CRAP out of me when I walk into the bedroom and see a huge head staring at me! For reference: my entire head goes from approximately the chin to the middle of the nose. Yes, I srsly measured it that way... I would have stood next to it to demonstrate the hugeness of the poster but I was simply too scandalized and embarrassed to be in the picture! HEY! Quit judging me! I love it! I'm totally getting Nick an Alice poster now...

**I will probably never speak of this in person (OR public)... I'd be WAY too embarrassed! Just kidding... maybe... :)

Oh yeah - on a funny/cute note - Nick was google.com-ing (LOL) to see what the heck a "pocket edward" is and Bless him... he searched for Edward Patterson and Edward Pattinson. I was like "Dude what the heck are you doing?!? It's Edward Cullen..." and then I rolled my eyes at him (couldn't help it.) Trying to make an effort... Precious. I LOVE that he's attempting to support my closet obsession. ;)

4. A classroom update is coming sometime this week. I know you can't wait!

My Day

Well this won't be too exciting. You have been warned. Continue reading at your own risk. You may need a chair and some coffee.

So I am legit now. I even have a certificate for being a presenter today. It looks all official and stuff. I got to feel important for a few hours I guess. It sounds all important and stuff but in reality we just went to FMU (that's where the conference was), got our official presenter packets (woo hoo!), got a nifty name tag (ok it wasn't really that nifty. I could print another one if I wanted to), set up our room and waited for the people to come. I even got to be tech support (sort of) when we couldn't find a wireless network to connect to (what we needed to get internet in the room) I have a little experience in that area but I really didn't help much. The computer just needed a little more time to connect to the network. Once the people came we started talking about what we do for SMART Night and how we plan it out. I've never thought too much about it being out of the ordinary but I guess it is something to be proud of. Everyone was really into it and excited about doing the things we talked about and showed them with their students. They kept saying "wow I can see my kids doing this" and what not. I was like "that's kind of the point" you know?!? They really liked it that we plan all of these activities that correlate with the state standards that they can do at home with stuff they most likely already have at home. They also thought it was cool that 1. We were actually from here. (I guess they thought we traveled to present at their conference) and 2. That we were the actual people that thought up the activities and did this with our actual students and parents. So it went well. I even got an umbrella for being a presenter. That made it totally worth it. ;)

The absolute B.E.S.T part was one woman was looking through the book that we had printed from the SMART Night we did this year and stopped on MY page. (we each had to type out a page that outlined what we did in each session by grade level and my session (with Mrs. Taylor) was "egg'citing math) So she stops on that page and says "wow what a great idea!" I was like that's MY session!!! So she wanted me to tell her all about it and I was able to tell her FIRST HAND how well it worked with the kids and how I even made more to use in the classroom on a regular basis. You remember me needing the egg cartons right? Well that's what this was. So that was cool. She left saying that she would definitely do it next year! I can't take all the credit though. The original idea came from Mrs. Taylor. We worked together to get it together and I presented it back in April at school. So I feel like it's partially my 'baby' too. You know what I mean?

So yeah it went well. They had to do surveys and we got glowing reviews from everyone. The only negative was that some wished the session was longer!

So all in all it was a pretty good time. I was thinking the group would be lagging since our session was right after they ate lunch but they weren't. Maybe our session was that good.

I wonder now if we won't have to do other conferences with more sessions (like be there all day). That wouldn't be bad.

After that I was feeling pretty good. When we got back to school I stopped by my classroom and saw that it hasn't been destroyed. So I have hope that it will be in one piece once the summer camp is done with it. They are using my carpets though. How dare they. Just kidding...maybe... Melissa was like "ugh- you have the 5 yr olds in your room!?!" I was like "dude srsly I have 6 yr olds regularly. It's not like it's that different."

I should have taken a picture in my official presenter outfit and name tag. But I didn't. sorry.
:( Everyone said I looked really pretty though. :) I actually curled my hair and put decent make -up on today. Maybe I'll do that more often when we go back. I tend to get lax and don't want to take the time to curl my hair.

After that we went grocery shopping and then Nick talked me into going swimming *cringes from sunburn flashbacks*. He was bored and has been dying to go swimming since I got charred last week. So we slathered me up with sun screen and went to the pool at 6:30. So it wasn't bad. Oh yeah - I am now peeling like crazy. You don't want me to take a picture of that I promise. THEN we decided to take Murphy to the dog park and let him run around for a while. He was the only dog there so he had fun. There is a pond there with a bunch of fish jumping around. He was soooooo afraid of them!! He would jump back and then run away every time one jumped. It was pretty funny. He is definitely NOT a water dog. We had a good time talking about Kate and imagining how she would be hanging out in the middle of the pond getting all the abandoned balls and fishing bobs (is that what they are called) that got marooned.

So that was my Monday. Not too shabby if I do say so myself.

How was your Monday?

I know I am starting to get excited about Harry Potter coming out in like 16 days!!! I bet you're not. But that's okay. I'll forgive you this once. We can't all be excited about HP. We might even go to the midnight showing. :) I might even get a t-shirt. Yeah I'm serious. I'm still planning to get a Team Edward shirt. And yes I will wear it/them to the movies. But I won't be going the the midnight showing of New Moon. Two reasons: 1. If it does come on on a Thursday I can't hang with getting up and going to work the next day. 2. I refuse to watch it with a bunch of screaming idiots (if I can at all help it).

So that was my day. :) Hopefully you didn't fall off of your chair from boredom. Or go blind from having to read too many words with no pictures. ;)

What the...

Ummm. I think I've decided how to get my hair cut. Srsly.

Yep. Wow. That's definitely as 'unBella' as one can get. Calm down though mom - it's only for another movie. I still think she should rock it in Eclipse though. She could totally play a Volturi member or something. What do you think?

Guess who's not biting her fingernails...

Give up??? Ok - I'll tell you.

ME! Yay me! It's been almost a month now with no relapse! I've actually had to repaint and apply touch ups 4 or 5 times now! Nick was confused as to why I was all 'girlie' all the sudden. But as I've learned from the past 800 times I've briefly stopped biting my nails - If I don't keep them painted - I'll chew on and bite them. And chewing and biting on nails = sore/hurting fingers. Not cool. I've even joined the times and recently painted them purple. (no that's not the awesome purple in the picture sorry - I know you're crushed). Maybe I'll get even more adventurous and go green or blue next.

P.S - don't mind the school work. That picture was taken during the "end of year hurry up and get all my paperwork done" rush. But as you can see - I was stalling. Some things never change. Am I right?

So who knows. Maybe it will stick this time. I kind of like experimenting with the different colors.

Look out world...

My first post. Huh. What to say...what to say...

ummmm.. hi?

*waves to Mom, Dad & Jason*

Now you can't say I don't email. Cause this is way cooler than the email club *ducks head* ok maybe not, Jason. I suppose I'll still email just to feel important and stuff.

Since I have no idea what I will talk about why don't I just start by telling you the things I won't be talking about.

1. Politics (boring)
2. How much cooler the email club is.
3. How badly they portray Bella in Twilight. (let it go mom (Francis), let it go)
4. What I'm not going to be doing until August. (hey we can't all be teachers)

everything else is fair game- you've been warned

Words of Wisdom

We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some are broken, some are whole, some have weird names, and all are different colors.... but they all learn to live in the same box.
