This Year I Will

Love myself.

Get up in the morning and thank God for another day.  Instead of grumbling about going to work and having to get up so early.

Call my loving brother more.

Wear sunscreen.

No repeat of this please.

Tell the people I love, that I love them.  Yes, they already know.  But it can’t hurt to tell them… again.

Be thankful for what I have.

Not let the negative get me down.

Give more hugs.  Because you never know when someone might need one.

Stop comparing myself to everyone around me.

Love completely.

Speak softly.

Listen.

Drink more water.

Go to the gym more.

Also,

I have no idea where I heard this... so I can't cite it.  Just know - this isn't my thought.  But I like it.

It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great.

I will remember this when things get tough.

What will YOU do in 2011?

Oh yeah!  I nearly forgot!  Happy New Year!

May 2011 be good to us!

Top Ten Moments

This year wasn't the best year for me.  Actually it was probably one of the worst I've had in a while.  But I've learned that no good comes from dwelling on the bad.  So I've decided to remember the good.  Which is what we should always do anyway.

I'm sure I'll miss something but here it is anyway.

The Top Ten Moments of 2010

*In no particular order

1.  Super Target in Durham, NC.  Does it get any better?  I just really don't think so.  Yes mom, the trip to Duke sucked.   The hotel sucked.  The city sucked.  The people were NOT nice. The roads sucked. Srsly NC.  WTH is up with the roads?!? The appointment sucked.  Even though the doctor was nice.  But the GPS lead us to a Super Target.  So it can't be considered a bust.  Even if it kiiiinda was.

2.  A long soul healing summer.  With lots of days spent lounging and reading at the pool with V.  And one fateful day at the beach (RIP sunglasses, pump infusion set and top 50 layers of my skin.  You are missed.).  Lots of laughs and lots of peace.

3.  Finding my LONG LOST best friend T on Facebook. See some good comes from the evil beast that is FB.  I'd missed him since he moved away 10 years ago.  I'm glad to have my friend back.

4.  Nick's flowers.  I'll say it again.  I have NEVER been one for fresh cut flowers (they die and make me sad).  But Nick has made a believer out of me this year.  I love looking at them.  I love smelling them.  And I love seeing him come home with them and that smirk he has when he knows he's done something sweet.

5.  Sterling.  I am beyond excited that Jason met her.  I've only known her for a short time and I already L.O.V.E. her.  It's about time he found someone who is good and genuine and simply a beautiful person inside and out.  (Dear Jas, Hang on to this one.  love, me)

6.  Wilmington, Savannah, Charleston... you name it.  Going on Spring Break getaways with mom.  Even if I am terrible at planning them and deciding on a destination.  I do love them.

7.  Girl's Nights.  Enough said.  I can not narrow it down to one.  They are all highlights of my year.  I love you girls.

8.  Velcro cat.  Snuggling Murphy.  Goofy and Lick you to Death Kate.  These three make my heart happy.  Every time I see them.

9. Nick being a weird sleeper.  He talks.  He gets up and turns lights on and off.  He has conversations that make no sense.  He presses down on my chest/stomach (I think he tries to kill me).  It's weird I tell you.  But usually very funny.  If I'm going to be woken up in the middle of the night...at least I get to laugh.  It's also sweet sometimes.  Like that time he put his arm around me, kissed my forehead, took his arm back, patted me on the head then rolled back over and resumed snoring.

10. Realizing that moving in the right direction doesn't have to be this monumental event.  Slow steps count just as much.  Also, deciding that I definitely don't need everything to be happy.  Life is precious.  It's not perfect.  It's not easy.  It's not always good.   But it's all we have.  And that's enough.

11.  (I know... I said top ten.  So sue me.)  No one broke into my car this year.  *knocks on wood*  Yay!  I guess my new embarrassingly loud car alarm - that likes to go off during thunderstorms - is enough to scare the thieves away.  *knocks on wood again*

Can you narrow down your top ten for 2010?

Me too...

Today - one kid had a srs breakdown after not remembering how to spell 'with' on the spelling test. When I say breakdown...I mean B.R.E.A.K.D.O.W.N. I mean his day was RUINED. Completely. Even after explaining that he spelled the bonus word "monster" right - so he still had a perfect grade, he still couldn't get past it.

Fast forward 2 hours...

He's moping around - refusing to play at recess - refusing to eat the Friday Snack...

I hear him mumble: "I wanna go home."

Me: "Are you still upset about the test? Because trust me, it is OKAY! You spelled 'monster' right and that is much harder than 'with'. You did a great job on the test!"

Him: "*pouts...sighs...mopes some more* No. I don't want to be here. I just want to go home now."

Me: Why?

Him: "Because I like it there."

Me: *ponders this Truth...*

Me too kiddo... me too.

No words

I have no words for today.  Nope.  None.  So here are some words from other people.

Language ahead.

from ruminations.com...

Let's stop with the "It was too short" response when talking about your weekend or vacation. We get it - working sucks and not working is awesome. Move on.

What the hell is the permanent press option on the dryer? Sounds serious, I'll tell you that.

Red nail polish makes you look chic for the 27 seconds until it chips, and then you instantly look like a street whore.

You know you're in a slump when you go on facebook and can't think of anyone to stalk.

I judge friendship based on how far I can go to insult a friend. Say, I am only able to call you a douchebag, then you're likely to be just an acquaintance, but if I call your mom a whore and you find it hilarious, then you're like a brother to me.  [LOL - I love you mom]

Why does the Easter Bunny give out Easter eggs? Bunnies are mammals and they definitely do not lay eggs.

I don't know why the hell people even bother coming in to the office on Fridays, because all we do is spend the day plotting how early we can get out of here.

Hey guy at toilet paper factory who puts glue on the flap to hold it down, less is more.

There's nothing worse than being the last person to sign the birthday card for a random employee in the office. There are only so many ways to pretend that I care about your birthday and they have all been taken.

"I really love my Blackberry, but I have a lot of trouble with the trackball." Hm, perhaps if you stop pressing it in like you're trying to crush the phone's larynx, that wouldn't happen. No wonder you suck at Brickbreaker.  [DUDE -  Maybe that's my problem!  I'm coming for you Jason and I will beat you...eventually]

I now know what it must be like as a fly repeatedly flying into a window. It's the same as when I enter my password over and over to no avail and not notice the caps lock is on.

Moving is the best excuse ever to devour everything in my kitchen. Remaining items: 8 beers, 2 frozen pizzas, half a pack of string cheese, pickles, cashews, box of thin mints. Nights left: 1. I got this.

I'm pretty sure I have never answered honestly when someone asks "So, what are you thinking?" Nobody needs to know that shit.

For the sake of people's jobs, there should be an "are you sure" prompt when you hit "reply all"!

When food products refer to homemade recipes they"ll depict a perfect grandmother. Just once I wanna see a crabby old lady smacking her grandkids with a wooden spoon, yelling, and the slogan would be, "That bitch was crazy, but her soup kicked ass."

Even if I know exactly where I screwed up when typing in a password, I always erase the entire thing and start over.

As soon as I realize the absolute latest minute I can get up for work and still make it on time - I'll never get up a second earlier.

Dear brain, let's please understand the distinction between angry and sad. Tears go with sad, please stop making my angry tangents completely pointless. Thanks.

I hate when a store asks if I want to donate $1 to some obscure, unnecessary charity as I'm standing at the register. No, I don't care to donate to the "Blankets for Polar Bears" organization, but now I have to so I don't look like a cheap ass.

What are you? Dumb? Everybody knows the word dude is gender neutral.

LOLcats/dogs

Alright to the serious business now...

Rly though...do you believe me NOW?!?!  If only the 'higher-ups' believed me/us now.

*sighs*  'playing the game' at work...  not fun.  Nothing like swallowing your pride and dignity all at once.

srsly.

If you need me...I'll be trying to find my inner peace.

Truth

Truth

Screw this 1:59AM to 3AM on a Sunday thing. I think we should spring ahead some time during the work week, like go straight from 2:59PM to 4PM on a Wednesday.

*from Ruminations.com

I couldn't agree more.

Things I've learned...

You never stop learning. It's true.

Just today I had another instance of *open mouth...insert foot*.

I'll give you a little background. Just last year - I learned that sometimes people acutally need yet another tissue every 20 minutes for legit reasons. I never got it until I got sick one time last year and could not stop the constant flow coming from my nose (TMI I know). I always just assumed that they wanted an excuse to get up and walk across the room. I had no idea. But I learned. And now you won't hear me saying a WORD to someone who feels the need to get up and get a tissue every 5 seconds. True story.

So what did I learn today?

I learned that sometimes, on occasion a nose can make A LOT of noise and sound like it is full and overflowing but when you try, and I mean actively try to blow it...nothing comes out. I don't know how many times I've said something to the effect of, "if I can hear it in there when you breathe - then I KNOW that you can go blow it and get it OUT" or "doesn't that bother you to hear it and feel it in there but not blow it out?". Yeah - Callous. Harsh. Cold. I know. But in my defense it is G.R.O.S.S. to hear it in there and wonder (worry) that on any given deep exhale - it might all come out. *shudders*

So what I take from today's lesson - is that as nasty as it sounds (and feels) to KNOW there is stuff in there - sometimes it just won't come out no matter how hard to try to get it out. End. Of. Story.

One more pondering - why do my Kleenex tissues have freaking sparkles in them?!? Sparkles do nothing for softness/soothingness. My nose and surrounding area is raw and in pain no matter how pretty it looks being all sparkly.

Truths and other Funnies...again...

For your enjoyment and LOLz - from my most favy fav site: ruminations.com

You don't have to keep telling me, "Dude, I'm so drunk." I know what drunk looks like and you're not it. See Phil over there hitting on the coat rack? That's drunk.

Why do I feel like I have to hit the clear button on my calculator like 8 times before I am confident that it's actually cleared?

I'd be so annoyed if someone constantly lifted me up without warning, carried me a short distance, touched my hair, and then put me down in a random spot. I guess that's why cats are so bitchy.

So much pressure being a grown-up. Sometimes I just want to build a tent in my living room, bring my favorite toys, and stay in there the rest of the day. (sounds like a good plan...care to join me?)

When I walk out of a store without buying anything, I feel like I'll be stopped for thievery at any minute. Am I walking too fast? Are my hands in the right place? Are my eyes shifty? Oh yeah. Didn't steal anything.

I'd be much more inclined to purchase a home security system if they offered a moat and drawbridge package. And yes, I would be interested in the angry alligator option.

Who needs a dictionary anymore? I just type words into google and see if it corrects me.

Does anybody ever consider actually using bing or yahoo? I don't care if they are better abled to find what I am looking for, but I will never let google down.

Is it just me, or are 80% of the people in the "people you may know" feature on facebook people that I do know, but i deliberately choose not to be friends with?

I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.

How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear what they said?

My GPS says "Estimated Arrival Time." I see "Time to Beat."

I hate when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello? Dammit!), but when I immediately call back, it rings nine times and goes to voicemail. What'd you do after I didn't answer? Drop the phone and run away?

Extended time off from school absolutely destroys my sleeping schedule. (tell me about it)

I really wish that body hair would get the hint and stop growing back after the first 10 shaves.

Dead is a bit too morbid of a term to describe a cell phone that has lost its charge. My phone is currently taking a nap. Back in action soon.

You know you're good friends with someone when they say something that makes no sense at all and you still know what they meant. (sounds familiar...)

May God have mercy on your soul if you wake me up even 30 seconds before my alarm clock is set to go off in the morning.

Sure, I'd love to join you in strapping two planks to my feet and hurling my clumsy ass down an icy mountain unprotected at top speeds. I see this ending well.

A light came on in my car for my airbag. I'm not sure what it means or how to fix it, but I now live in fear that it will deploy at any second and I will be impaled by my Slurpee straw.

Sometimes I make my dog sit through those sad as hell "adopt a pet commercials". Just to remind him how good he has it.

At this point, I'm beginning to think Hell is the only place that hasn't frozen over. (srsly - I thought I lived in the south WTF?)

There are few things as sweet as a canceled meeting. (Ain't that the freaking gods honest truth- although a snow day would be pretty sweet too right about now)

The most awkward 1.5 minutes of life is while being sung your Happy Birthday song. Where are you supposed to look?

Some people say I have an obsessive personality, but after hundreds of hours of research spanning several years, I can find no conclusive evidence supporting this. (me obsessive??? never...)

The Truth...

So I was just perusing the internets for funnies or other nonsense b/c I was bored and in need of a laugh and I landed on this gem.

Apparently it was something from a radio show and NO I will not tell you exactly where I found it (too embarrassed as usual) - I don't know the specifics but I do know that it is hilarious! I think everyone can find something they can relate to. Me? Waaaaaaayyyyyy too many sounded like they were written by me or for me. srsly.

*sorry mom and dad - some language ahead - I didn't censor it.

**This is l-o-n-g. Read when you have a few minutes!

'Truisms' and Other Universal Truths

6. The only time I look forward to a red light is when I'm trying to finish a text. Or changing the song on my i-pod.

13. I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars teams up on the highway to prevent a jerk from cutting in at the front.
14. Every time I have to spell a word over the phone using 'as in' examples, I will undoubtedly draw a blank and sound like a complete idiot. Today I had to spell my boss's last name to an attorney and said "Yes that's G as in...*10 second lapse*..ummm...Goonies"

17. MapQuest really needs to start their directions on #5. Pretty sure I know how to get out of my own neighborhood thanks!
18. Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died. Srsly - how may times have I thought that!?!?
19. I find it hard to believe there are actually people who get in the shower first and THEN turn on the water.
20. Whenever I'm Facebook stalking someone and I find out that their profile is public I feel like a kid on Christmas morning who just got the Red Ryder BB gun that I always wanted. 546 pictures? Don't mind if I do! *jens on the floor rolling at this one*
21. If Carmen San Diego and Waldo ever got together, their offspring would probably just be completely invisible. *where in the world is Carmen San Diego* Great now I have that song stuck in my head... super...
22. Why is it that during an ice-breaker, when the whole room has to go around and say their name and where they are from, I get so incredibly nervous? I know my name, I know where I'm from, this shouldn't be a problem....
23. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you make up your mind that you just aren't doing anything productive for the rest of the day.

37. I feel bad for the Trix rabbit, all that poor bastard wants is some F***ing cereal.
38. I don't think high schools should have school zones. I mean if you can't cross the street by the time you are in high school you sorta deserve to get hit by a car.
39. I often find myself too exhausted from keeping up with the constant emails among my working friends and other coworkers to actually buckle down and do some work for my job. Ain't that the truth!!
40. I hate when people change their Facebook status to state how stressful and busy they are but soon after, I see their results on What Color They Represent, What Twilight Character They Will Hook Up With & What Their White Trash Stripper Name Would Be.

Words of Wisdom

We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some are broken, some are whole, some have weird names, and all are different colors.... but they all learn to live in the same box.
