and then...

And then one night you'll put him to bed, awake.  Because that's what the experts say.  Put him to bed so he'll fall asleep and wake up in the same place.  It works.  Trust us.  He'll soothe himself better in the middle of the night.  He'll stop waking up in the night.   And if he does wake up, he'll be able to put himself back to sleep, without you even hearing him.  It's proven.  Just trust us!   And you will.  So you'll put him to bed and let him whine.  He'll whine and cry.  And whine some more.  He'll talk.  He'll bang his feet on the side of the crib.  He'll cry some more.  So you'll cave and go to check on him.  Just a peek, you'll say.  So you'll sneak to his room.  Breaking out all your best ninja moves, you'll ever so carefully peek into his room...

To find a baby... ever so casually...  Standing (!) up in the corner of his crib.  Watching you.  Of course he'll have seen your 2 out of place hairs and half of eyeball that peeked around the corner.  He'll stop crying and look as if to say, "It's about time!".  Then before you're even 100% sure you've been spotted,   he'll reach out his arms for you to pick him up.  And because he's a forgiving baby and not one to hold a grudge...He'll let you make it up to him by rocking him lovingly until he falls asleep, ever so peacefully, in your arms.

Sweet Dreams, Sweet Pea.  See you in a couple hours...

Words of Wisdom

We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some are broken, some are whole, some have weird names, and all are different colors.... but they all learn to live in the same box.
